Arcade cabinet’s from 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s were often adorned with artists’ visualizations of the game world that we far more lush, vivid, and detailed than the graphics capabilities of the machines at the time. In that way, the cabinet art is a fantasy of a fantasy, and artist’s imagination of the fantasy world the game was trying to portray.
West of House features of collection of landscapes extracted from that artwork. All characters, action, text, and other features have been removed in order to allow for a reflection on the settings of these fantasies.
The title derives from the opening location in the early text-based adventure game Zork. “You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door.”
Some Destruction features explosions from this artwork and Arsenal features weapons.
